Year 2

Welcome to Year 2

Year 2 is taught by Miss Tombs on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, and by Miss Smith on a Thursday and Friday. The teaching assistants supporting Year 2 are Mrs Witty and Ms Hudd.

Autumn Term Timetable
Autumn 1 Topic - 'Beat Band Boogie!'

This half term, our topic is called Beat Band Boogie. The focus for this half term is Design and Technology and Music. See below for more information about the project along with ideas for extra activities you can be doing at home.

"Here comes the marching band. Left, right, left, right. Step in time to the beat: 1, 2, 3, 4; let's make sounds, high and low. That sound is loud. That one’s quiet. What can you hear? There are sounds all around. What’s making each one? Name all the instruments in the band and be part of a ‘body orchestra’. Pat your knees, clap your hands, tap your feet, let’s move to the beat. Now march up the hill with the Grand Old Duke of York, beating your drum or shaking your shaker. Then it’s time to perform. Your audience loves you, so let’s take a bow."

Homework

Daily tasks:

To continue to develop your child's literacy and comprehension skills, we expect them to read at home every day. Children should read aloud to a parent or carer who can then sign their daily reading records. Children cannot sign the reading records themselves. We also aim to hear every child read aloud at least once a week in class, either through whole class guided reading or on a 1:1 basis during daily quiet reading time.

Weekly tasks:

Children will not be given weekly homework in Year 2.

Spellings:

Please see below the Year 2 spelling list.  Your child will be expected to know these words by the end of Year 2.

It is expected that children will practise and learn these regularly at home. They will also be taught in school and assessed at the end of each half term.

PE

Year 2 have PE on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Children should come to school dressed in PE kits on these days. Please consider clothing choices as the weather changes too - jogging bottoms may become preferable as the winter months come!

Children should keep a pair of trainers in school at all times too - these will be used for other activities such as the daily mile.

Forest School

On a Thursday or a Friday, Year 2 will have a Forest School session. This could change weekly and Miss Smith will keep you informed via Classdojo. Please ensure your child has the appropriate clothes for Forest School on the specified day.

On a Tuesday, Year 2 will have an Art session, led by Miss White-Jones.

We currently have spaces for funded and non funded 2, 3 and 4 year olds in our nursery. Please contact the school office for more information.
